Graham ISD is pleased to announce the hiring of veteran educator Dr. Janel Madeley as Chief Academic Officer. She fills a district-level position previously held by Gary Browning who was named Chief Financial Officer in February.
“With the recent adoption of our Strategic Plan, the hiring of Dr. Madeley shows our commitment to preparing each and every student for success at the next level,” said Superintendent Dr. Mary Johnston. “Her focus will be on growing and supporting campus principals and teachers as they lead our students toward even greater levels of academic excellence.”
As part of her work in support of the Strategic Plan, Dr. Madeley will help Graham ISD educators ensure individual student needs are met. She will also guide the district in its work to provide differentiated professional development for all educators to maximize instruction in the classroom, as well as ensure the development of the guaranteed and viable curriculum across all levels.
“I am excited to build on the success in Graham,” said Dr. Madeley. “I will encourage a collaborative and innovative environment that allows each student and educator to thrive. I can't wait to meet the Graham team and contribute to our shared vision of academic excellence.”
Dr. Madeley earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Texas Woman’s University. She went on to complete her principal certification degree and doctorate (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership at Lamar University in Beaumont.
With more than 15 years of educational experience, Dr. Madeley began her career in Little Elm ISD as a classroom teacher, coach, department chair and team lead. She participated in various leadership committees, was a mentor teacher and served as a club sponsor for Student Council and Math Club during her service at Prestwick STEM Academy, Lakeside Middle School and Powell Intermediate School. From 2015 to 2021 she served as K-12 Curriculum Coordinator for Mathematics at the Zellars Center for Learning Leadership in LEISD.
Since 2021, Dr. Madeley has served as a Master Teacher and Continuing Lecturer at the University of North Texas in Denton, with a large piece of her role being the support and coaching of pre-service teachers in the field. Among her academic accomplishments, she has been a regional and state grant recipient for Texas Regional Collaborative & Blended Learning as a Math Innovation Zone.
Dr. Madeley will begin her position July 1. Welcome to Graham ISD, Dr. Madeley, an educator who is: Always passionate. Always building relationships. Always learning.
